The name is derived from Cane Island Creek, which begins just west of downtown, a branch in Buffalo BAYOU. The origin of the name Cane Island are believed to be the fact that Katy was one of the major sugar cane producer. The main attraction is the Houston suburb Katy Mills Mall. A secondary attraction is an unusual outdoor museum of Chinese culture and history called the Forbidden Gardens.
